The Association for Students and Teachers of Color in Slavic Studies (STC) is an affiliate organization of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), which is dedicated to better connecting and expanding the network of minority scholars working in the profession. STC is committed to improving general understanding of the unique challenges faced by students and educators of color studying, teaching, and conducting research in and about the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. The Association seeks to serve as a platform for discussions of race and ethnicity in the region. Its first annual meeting was held at the ASEEES conference in Washington in November 2011, and the second annual meeting is planned for November 16, 2012 at the ASEEES conference in New Orleans.
In the meantime, STC’s officers are starting a few projects this summer and welcome the help of anyone who would like to get involved. The group plans to send out a short summer newsletter that will include, among other things, information on various funding sources. They will also be working on the group website and starting a group blog. If you are familiar with setting up websites or maintaining a blog and would like to help, or if you have ideas as to what should be included in the newsletter, please contact the group officers.
