REEEC Faculty Associate Dr. Nancy Scannell’s Visit to Stella’s House in Moldova

In July 2013, REEEC Faculty Associate Dr. Nancy Scannell, a tenured Associate Professor of Business Administration at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS), visited Stella’s House in Moldova’s capital city of Chisinau. Stella’s House is an undertaking of Stella’s Voice (http://www.stellasvoice.org), an organization that supports at-risk young ladies by providing housing, education and advisement. Moldova, once part of Romania, and arguably the poorest nation in Europe, has become a regional engine for human trafficking.  Dr. Scannell aims to enlighten her UIS students about trafficking in persons – a massive, brutal, lucrative and illegal global business operation that escapes standard business textbook treatment.
